Can classical piano music coexist with rock, pop, or jazz? That’s what my fundraiser recital, “The Battle of the Genres,” will answer on March 16th, 2024. My name is Alexander Vance, a Life Scout from Boy Scout Troop 407, and I will put my nine years of piano lessons to work for my Eagle Scout Project Fundraiser to raise funds for The Claremont Community School of Music (CCSM). I love keyboards and the piano, so when I saw how CCSM is forced to store their electronic keyboards stacked against a wall, I decided to help. That was how “The Battle of the Genres” was born. On March 16th, 2024, I’ll be playing my favorite songs, and they might be yours as well; “Listen to Your Heart” (Roxette), “Nothing Else Matters” (Metallica), the Warsaw Concerto (Richard Addinsell), The Greatest Showman Medley, “Luke’s Theme”(Star Wars), and more! With your help, I will raise the funds necessary for my Eagle Scout Project in order to build a functional shelving unit on wheels to house the keyboards, the stands, and the electronics at CCSM. No more leaning against a wall! And the great news is that 100% of extra funds not used in my project will support CCSM’s “88 Key Campaign”, an effort to replace their aging pianos.
